SmartView 11.1.2.3 – Find Members Limitation

I know I said that I write something about Essbase, but recently I came across a problem with SmartView. I just want you all to know about it so that everyone can go around it.

My SmartView is connecting with Essbase ASO or BSO, it’s gives the same problem. As you know, you can find members with SmartView. And as you all know asterisk ” * ” can be used behind a string as a wildcard. So you can find “West Sales” by typing “We*”.

Now, the problem with SmartView is that when in your Dimension, if you have asterisk as an Alias then you will not be able to search through the hierarchy. Instead, it’ll always return the first member that has the asterisk. Moreover, I find that I encounter the same problem even when the hierarchy contains a member that has pipes ” | “. Interesting though, I can’t find this in documentations.

I’m not sure if this is a bug, but I think we should skip these characters for now. Please do feel free to comment if you ever come across the same problem.
