OBIEE Patch 126.96.36.199.150120 ODBC driver returned an error
After patching to 188.8.131.52.150120 it so happens that where Total Rows are used, there may be possibilities that you get “ODBC driver returned an error…..Cannot function ship the following expression…”.
Yes, 184.108.40.206.141014 also has the same problem described previously in this post here. Actually, a interim fix has been issued for a few weeks now but I wanted to do deep dive tests before I tell everyone that this works. It works!!!
Download the Patch 19599154 here. Alternatively, search in Oracle Support for Patch Number 19599154 Windows x64 yourself to get this patch. You have options of fixing 141014 or 150120.

There’s a strange bug since 220.127.116.11.140715 which is when you want to limit prompt values by another prompt, the All Column Values default selection gets reverted to — Select Value–. Here’s what happens and the workaround to fix it.
Lets start by creating a Dashboard Prompt
Next, we’ll use Sample Sales Lite as an example.
OBIEE Patch 18.104.22.168.141014 ODBC driver returned an error
After patching to 22.214.171.124.141014 it so happens that where Total Rows are used, there may be possibilities that you get “ODBC driver returned an error…..Cannot function ship the following expression…”.
The way to fix it is to edit the fact columns and change the “Aggregate Rule (Total Rows)” to “Sum” instead of Default. The strange thing is that the first fact column can be left as default from my current observations. Hope this helps everyone who encounter this error.
Update 25-November-2014: For row totals, when percentage is present, changing to SUM will cause percentage to add up which is wrong. Temporarily may need to change report based aggregation methodology to none so that incorrect figures are not displayed. I am still working on how to fix this issue.
I am going to go through a few important SR’s I have raised in the past few months and majority will have enhancements made by Oracle.
The reason why I’m writing this is because I’m hoping other could avoid these bugs if they come across it.
UNABLE TO SHOW TEXT MEASURES IN OBIEE FROM ESSBASE DATASOURCE
I would like to first give an update from my previous blog on Creating Text Entry in Essbase when I said there’s a bug when trying to read text entries from OBIEE. Recently, Dev team replied to have this fixed in 126.96.36.199 which is coming soon. However, there will be a three restrictions as follows (notice it says 188.8.131.52, this should be 184.108.40.206) (Bug 17515163):
RELEASE NOTES: This trans contains essbase text measure support feature. There are following three restrictions. 1)Essbase text measure member can only be defined on Measure dimension. 2)User need to manually mark the varchar data type in rpd physical layer for text measure. 3)The text measure can be supported only for flat cube model.
I would understand that the text member will need to be defined on a Measure dimension but point 2 and 3 doesn’t really make sense. This means a manual edit will be needed to mark as varchar data type. Moreover, flattening a cube isn’t a best practice. I guess we’ll have to make another suggestion to Oracle.
